From Hope
To Home
At Cherryland Humane Society (CHS), we believe that every animal deserves a safe, loving, and hopeful place to call home. We’ve been honored to serve as the only animal shelter for Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties, but as demand continues to grow, our ability to help those in need has reached its limits. That’s why we’re asking for your support as we publicly launch the From Hope To Home Capital Campaign.
OUR CHALLENGE:
The animals in our care–and the team members caring for them–deserve a roomy, healthy space to thrive. The animals who find their way to us often bear the scars of emotional and physical abuse, so safe spaces are essential to their healing. Despite our best efforts, the constraints of our current building limit our ability to provide nurturing spaces for the animals we look after.
As demand for our services continues to grow, we’re urgently in need of expanded space to house and treat animals.
CREATING A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR PETS AND PEOPLE
Through this campaign, we will increase our space and services by:
-
Creating a dedicated dog intake wing will help us streamline their unique medical and behavioral needs upon admission and provide appropriate living quarters for our canine friends. Using ASV Shelter standards and guidelines as our framework, the wing will feature:
Temporary isolation area for new arrivals
Ample living quarters
Areas to roam and play
-
Cats need safe and secure living spaces that prioritize their comfort and minimize stress. With a design guided by Association of Shelter Veterinarians, Inc. (ASV) standards and guidelines, cat housing will feature:
Natural lighting
Temporary isolation area for new arrivals
Areas to climb, perch and play
Stress and noise reduced area away from dogs
-
We must expand our clinic to provide the high level of care that keeps our animals and our community healthy. The expanded clinic will:
Help us build our medical program to offer additional preventative care
Increase our storage
Allow for future clinical offerings, such as:
Dental suite
Trap Neuter Return (TNR) services
Larger surgical suite
Public animal services
-
We hope to create a multi-use community center where the connections between people and pets can be celebrated. This space will support:
Humane education
Animal training for the public to include puppy socialization, obedience training and advanced behavior courses (agility, nose work, etc.)
Professional grooming for public and in-shelter pets
Volunteer orientations and summer camps
Special events and fundraisers
-
Over time, our team has expanded to meet the demand for our services. While they’ve adapted to doing more with less, the time has come to provide adequate office space to deliver the best care. By relocating the cats, their housing and supplies, we will provide:
Four new offices
More efficient workflow
Space for collaboration
Large space for dog interactions

Fundraising Progress
We are thrilled to share that we are only $100,000 away from achieving our $3 million campaign fundraising goal! These funds will enable us to break ground on a 9,000-square-foot expansion in May 2025, designed to significantly improve the lives of the nearly 600 animals we care for each year, and to help the people who love them.
Almost to goal!
Your
Impact
As we near our goal, we invite you to consider a gift or pledge to help us reach the $3M campaign goal. We look forward to celebrating the success and impact of this campaign with our community. Your gift to Cherryland Humane Society’s Campaign gives you the chance to make an imprint on the community you know and love.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us make this vision a reality. Together, we can provide the care, compassion, and hope that all animals deserve.
