Adoption

Let’s get started.

Adopting pets from shelters saves lives, gives animals a loving home, and makes space for others. Each adoption creates a positive chain reaction, offering these pets a second chance at happiness and care. Shelter animals, from diverse backgrounds, are eager to show love in return. Choosing adoption has a significant impact on these pets and their new families.

How it works

  • A woman behind a laptop sitting on the couch with headphones on sits next to her cream colored dog wrapped up in a blanket

    1) Do a bit of research

Read through the adoption process and all the information we provide for each animal and prepare to fall in love.

  • A woman in a green sweater sitting on a leather sofa with a laptop on her lap. Her fluffy tabby cat is lowering itself from the kitchen counter down to the sofa.

    2) Submit an app

Before you can adopt, you must fill out the Adoption Application for a dog or cat. You can apply online or download the application to fill out.

  • woman in purple tshirt kisses a brown dogs head. The dog looks like he is smiling.

    3) Matchmaking

Our adoption process is carefully curated to help us find you the best match for you and your needs. Our Adoption Counselor will be in touch with next steps to setup a time to visit our shelter.

Important info

To help you on your journey

  1. CHS accepts multiple applications on each animal, we are not first come first serve. Our team of adoption counselors will help matchmake every individual pet and family to ensure the best fit for all.

  2. Must be 21 to adopt with a valid driver's license or state ID card.

  3. We ask all members of the household to meet the new pet, some pets require multiple visits to build necessary relationships.

  4. To align with our mission of solving the homeless pet crisis, all household pets must be spayed and neutered, up to date on necessary vaccinations, and live in the same household as the adopter. If not currently established with a veterinarian, a vet deposit will be required.

  5. Cats and dogs adopted from CHS are indoor only.

  6. Every pet is an individual, and many have individual needs such as : post adoption training (included with adoption), multiple meet and greets to feel comfortable, medical needs, etc. Our adoption counselors will communicate these needs with all interested families.

CHS will not begin adoption process with an individual when:

  • A person is reasonably believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • Landlord or residence does not allow pets, or the living situation does not accommodate consistency for the pet (e.g. student housing, four unrelated adults living together, ect.)

  • Applications may be denied for any reason, including but not limited to an individual failing to comply with conditions of past adoption.
